Globally, Bayer is making efforts in various ESG areas, including biodiversity conservation, environmental and climate protection, crop protection, reducing carbon footprint, saving water resources, and recyclable product packaging. These efforts are aligned with its commitment to practice sustainability in pursuit of its goals. By 2030, Bayer aims to achieve carbon neutrality at its own production sites/factories and reduce carbon emissions across its entire supply chain. The company targets a 42% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from Scope 1 and Scope 2; a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from key crops in major regions; a 30% reduction in the environmental impact of crop protection products; and converting all Bayer HealthCare consumer product packaging to 100% recyclable or reusable. To achieve these goals, Bayer is implementing a range of sustainability initiatives dedicated to reducing its ecological footprint.

- On June 10, during the Shanghai International Carbon Neutrality Expo, Bayer Crop Science, Carbon Newture and Bureau Veritas jointly held a Better Life Farming Program promotional event and product carbon footprint certification ceremony. Leveraging Carbon Newture’s digital carbon management platform, Cyacle, Bayer Crop Science completed product carbon footprint assessments for three products—rice, potatoes and green tea—which subsequently received independent third-party verification and certification.
2025
- Compared with the 2019 baseline, the Group reduced its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 25.9% and its Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 12%.
- By the end of 2050, hybrid and electric vehicles accounted for approximately 20% of the Group’s vehicle fleet, contributing to an approximately 1% reduction in the Group’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
- The Group will continue to work closely with selected suppliers and seek to establish partnerships with suppliers that are able to enter into cooperation agreements with the Group.
- The Group will continue developing an internal carbon pricing mechanism for Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, with the aim of incorporating it into future procurement processes.2024
- In 2024, Bayer officially launched the Better Life Farming Program in China. Originating from Bayer’s global Better Life Farming initiative, the program aims to provide farmers with customized cultivation solutions, low-carbon agricultural practices and other services. Carbon Newture supports the program with product carbon footprint assessments and other low-carbon services.
- In 2024, Bayer became the first healthcare company to introduce a mono-material blister pack made of amorphous polyethylene terephthalate (APET) for Aleve™. The new packaging reduces its carbon footprint by 38%. In addition, the Group is advancing the transition from fossil-based materials to plant-based alternatives.2023
- Bayer used certificates from the Bayer Carbon Program (as part of ForGround by Bayer) for the first time. These support farmers financially who apply sustainable agricultural practices. The volume of CO₂ sequestered in the soil is certified. The resulting emissions certificates can then be sold on the market. Bayer has acquired the equivalent of 100,000 metric tons of CO₂ from this program.

2021
- Starting from 2021, the "Industry Association Climate Review 2023" will be published annually. The report will assess whether the climate stance of industry associations aligns with the company's own commitments to addressing climate change.
2020
- Launched the Bayer Carbon Program to assist farmers in adopting new technologies, providing growers in 28 states across the U.S. with opportunities to earn rewards by adopting cover crops and/or tillage-reducing practices that help maintain soil health.
